In 1980, as 22-year-old rookie Alaska Smokejumper, I was in the best shape of my life. In 2012, as a 54-year-old accountant who has been sitting behind a desk for 25 years, I had a slightly different shape! After 3 months of core class, my core is the strongest it’s ever been.  Muscles in other parts of my body are also emerging.
 
 
My wife of 26 years finds it quite entertaining that until core class she wasn’t sure I knew there was a mirror in the bathroom; now she’s wondering what I’m doing in front of it so much. Hmm –what’s that all about?
 
 
It’s also really amazing that the airlines have made their seats so much bigger in the last few months, too!
 
 
As for Melodee, the core class instructor and owner of Simply Core:  I can’t say enough wonderful things about her.  From the first day of class when she made a point of shaking my hand and making me feel welcome to calling me after my first class to see how it was, to the constant asking how class was and if it was a great workout. She’s tough, but that’s OK.  Never have I seen her when she’s not working harder than everyone else. She constantly reminds everyone that they should work to their level and ability, and shows us the different levels. Somebody just starting will be sorer than the devil in the beginning, but if you continue to go to class, you will be amazed how quickly you will see changes in your body.  Melodee makes class fun with her enthusiastic and energetic personality and her workout choreography – although sometimes I just have to stop and laugh at myself because I have no clue how to make my body perform the move she is doing!
 
 
In the beginning I went to class for stress relief; now I go to class because I’m addicted to it.  I can’t wait to see what happens in the months to come.

My Simply Core Testimony!!
Simply Core has been a major part in my weight loss. Along with a new healthy diet and a regular work out on the side I have lost 10+ lbs. Melodee is a sweet and spunky instructor who motivates her students and gives them the confidence to go that extra mile for themselves. She has designed this class to accommodate everyone who comes to attend and makes an hour fly by. By the end of the of the hour you will wonder why you are sweating so much!! YAYYY!! Melodee's Simply Core class has changed my life in such a wonderful way, and she is the best fitness instuctor ever! I always thought I was in ok shape but I just needed that extra push, so I tried out Simply Core and fell in love. I was so sore the first class that I would barely get out of bed the next morning and it felt so good and became addicting. I have been doing core for about 7 months now and started noticing dramatic changes in my body about 2 months after I started. This is the first class that I have taken that actually works!! There are so many wonderful aspects of Core that I like such as great music and atmosphere, super nice people, and the excersises are always changing so your muscles are confused and that's why there are major results. I feel so much more confident with my body because of Simply Core and that has made me more confident and happy as a person, its definetly the highlight of my day!  I can honestly say that with out Core I wouldn't have the muscle definition or confidence needed to compete in fitness competitions and pageants. I cant live without it and I will be doing core as long as Melodee teaches it. I love her!!

Thanks for the hard work-outs, I can see a difference! I went from a size 4-5 to a 2-3 and I haven't been doing it long. Love dramatic changes in work-outs. Keep on keeping on!

I have been fairly active in a variety of group exercises over the years.  Unfortunately, five years ago I ruptured a disc in my lower back and was halted from doing many of the activities that I had been involved in prior to this.  Looking for a new way to introduce exercise back into my life, I began taking core classes with Melodee.  Four years later, I can attest that this class has been the best decision I have made for my overall health.  It has been a long journey, but I feel that my health has been greatly improved due to her constant education and encouragement. 
This is probably the most difficult class I have ever taken, the reason being is that once you achieve a level, she always seems to have another modification to make the same exercise just a bit more challenging.  I have yet to see a “ceiling” for advancement on any exercise.  The most impressive part of Melodee’s teaching is that she knows how to start at level one and move up from there.  The first few classes are the most challenging, because one feels frustrated with exercises that seem simple, but when balance is involved, makes it much more challenging.  (I remember falling off the ball in the beginning – now I can balance on the ball with ease)  Melodee is a master at keeping everyone engaged and working at their own level.  I can say after being with her for four years, I still walk out exhausted and sore, but very satisfied, and the best part is my back is stronger than it has ever been, I thank her for that!!!     Kathy C.
 
 
I have always had mixed feelings and mixed results from group workout classes that I've taken in the past, but I have nothing but positive things to say about Melodee's Simply Core class! I have seen dramatic improvement in my strength and muscle stamina in a relatively short period of time, and combined with some much-needed diet changes, I'm finally starting to lose weight! The workout is certainly not an easy one, but Melodee presents multiple levels of difficulty on each exercise so that everyone involved can follow along and improve. When I have had trouble or pain from an exercise, Melodee has spent extra time with me to work out what the problem is and help me find a modification that works for me. I injured my lower back a few weeks ago while shoveling, and largely because of the strong core this class has helped me build, it doesn't hurt anymore. I've had back injuries before, and they have never healed so fast as this one did! I highly recommend this class to everyone I talk to about it, and to anyone who is reading this! Thank you, Melodee!

I had never been involved in group workouts before and I was definitely intimidated walking into my first core class but like most people, all it took was that introduction and I was hooked. Physically, my body was stronger than it had been when I was training for hours every day for volleyball at UAF, with muscle definition being noticeable within the first two months. Emotionally and mentally, this class is also an incredibly challenging and rewarding experience. Whether you're learning that "pain is weakness leaving the body" or overcoming the voice in your head that continues to tell you to just quit, you are constantly pushing yourself and Melodee is also an expert at recognizing when to offer you a little extra motivation to not give up. It's amazing to see and feel yourself suddenly able to push through to a more challenging level. This is a class where both the class and the instructor keep on giving, providing you with an opportunity to not only work your outer core, but your inner core as well. It's a beautiful thing. The people, the music, the energy all create a perfect environment to thrive-- all YOU have to do is "suck it up and suck it in!" ~E.H.
